A Creature Of Habit

That I am absolutely not ! And when I find myself dragged and pushed into a life of monotonous routine, naturally, I find it irksome ! So what is it that I endure, unfailingly, each and every day...

Autorickshaws !

They might go by the deceptive name of Mini Taxis (Oh ! The aspirations of some !), but in their truest and most inherent nature, they are bumpy, lowly, tin foil boxes of menace and pain...They run under the vile machinations of their Drivers who unfortunately forget to bring their brains to work and instead carry along a rucksack full of silly guts ! Ofcourse there follows no method in the operations of the autorickshaw...It might pick up from by the road anyone and everyone who tosses his/her hand out (Without much consideration of the fact that the tossing might be to straighten a crumpled sleeve)...And yet, on another day, the whims of the Driver might ignore the desperately flailing arms of commuters despite the fact that the 'Taxi' is empty ! And what do I write about the ride that follows? It could certainly put NASCAR racers to shame...

Air Conditioning !

My, my, do I see a few eyebrows raising? One would say, "She sits all day in the comforts of an air conditioned cabin and yet complains ! The audacity of youngsters !" I take a bow in reverence of the 'comforts' granted to me by the Company (Hallelujah) but coming from an humble upbringing in the sultry city of Bhubaneswar, the need of certain people to live their lives in a perpetual state of 16 Degree Celcius somehow fuddles my imagination...And do you not think that I have persistently requested the Admin to raise the temperature? But, seemingly, the entire staff is in the vile spell of that frigid white little box on the ceiling...Mutation, I presume...Well, it wouldn't be much of a surprise, if in a few months, I were to find a little penguin where Mr Ramanamurthy erstwhile sat ! Brrrr !

Walk ! (Or should I say Run !)

I wonder why BASF must build an office atop their warehouse, an economical way of coordinating the Supply Chain, I suppose...But what it does to a lone, abla nari is that she must walk a kilometer from the highway to reach her office each morning...Ofcourse the exercise is what I look forward to but somehow the trek by the long road of Trucks and more abominably, the Truck Drivers is something that I wouldn't categorise as a good habit ! On my lucky days, I walk with my earphones plugged in, oblivious to my surroundings and on days I would call not so lucky, a bit of jeering, a stray whistle or a few claps would fall on my ears ! And my heart would shout, 'RUN' ! Well, BASF is hardly planning to shift somewhere into the city, what with a voluptuous budget spent on the two month old office and Valsarajanji planning a Badminton Court...What I can look forward to (Chuckling) is the gleaming black Bolero that'll come my way in another 6 months...I might very well then go around showing a finger to those losers on the way !

The Other Girl...

The reference is certainly not to an adversary in a triangle of Love, she is merely the other girl, apart from me, in my office...Decently shod, a trifle bit shy and very much the efficient clerical brain...She was drawn to me, from the day we met, for a few words of professional advice (A few nicks and tricks on Excel, in which, I must admit, I am yet to be adept) and some unspoken assurance of sorority support...Everything seemed fine, I took to the sisterly role with ease, but then the insipid queries began to take their toll...A demonic toll at that ! It would start with a smiling "Good Morning Ma'm" and suddenly a seemingly innocuous "What did you have for breakfast, Mam?" would be hurtled my way...Each and every damn day ! It shamed me to say to her that I have two slices of Brown Bread or a few pieces of semolina rusk and that, unfortunately the woman she looks up to, isn't much of an expert in the matters of domesticity...I try my best to avert her query, to mumble a few inaudible words whenever she puts it forth but mind you, she is a persistent little bee ! So sometimes, I take to fabrications, Bread & Rusk become Idli, Ugaani or Poha and on few whimsical days, I even manage to cook up (Pun Intended) some Puri Bhaaji ! (Yes, yes, I am ashamed !) But what do I do when it seems as if there is a secret roster that she maintains with details of my morning dietary habits !

Quarrels !

Inadvertently, each and every night, there are sounds of a quarrel...Did I mention, I live in the respectable Doctor's Colony (Refer Dr Jeckyll & Mr Hyde) of Lal Bahadur Nagar? And yet, it escapes me how, but I hear them fight, someone or the other, squabbling away, in a drunken stupor or whimsical sobriety...Sometimes, they start early and go their separate ways by midnight and on other, unluckier nights, the theatrics begin when the clock strikes 12 ! Men, women and sometimes, screaming children...Residents of the adjoining Apartment Buildings or Vegetable Vendors at the nukkad...It is, as if God's way of sending to his children (Me in particular), minstrels to sing a lullaby ! And who said, God doesn't have a sense of humour !

Though I portray myself as the whimpering, complaining grinch through my aforementioned experiences, I must say there are some habits I am in no hurry to break...
>> A smile from my neighbour's wife and her toddler of a son when I step out to work in the mornings...(Well, we have never spoken to each other, I being unaware of Telugu and them of Hindi or English)
>> Bal Bahadur, the Nepali peon bringing me my cup of tea and a bottle of water to my cabin...
>> Dosa and bits from the others' tiffin boxes at lunch each day with all my bosses (Giri, Narayana and Valsarajanji)...
>> My house in the evenings...I spare a few moments in the Living Room, staring with hope at the marginally filled bookshelf with the first ten books of my personal collection and the glittering Kumukoppu I bought from Dharmavaram...

So, What Is It That We Did At MANAGE?

**We conversed with Venkat Sir ! And We swear, We tried our best to understand what he said !
**We bore the sarcasm of teachers and it wasn't that sarcastic when We aced their exams...
**We read Kotler...And some of 'We' read it several times over !
**We learned Supply Chain Management in 3 Days !
**We grappled with "Bhokaal" and ultimately won over !
**We orkutted...And We facebooked...And to top it all, We IPed !
**We spooked one another with Ghost stories, walking the Walker's Pathway at 3am in the morning...
**We boozed all night long and cried out "Tu to mera Bhai hai !"...And didn't remember a single word the next day...
**We watched a zillion movies...And then some more...
**We got into photo sessions any day and anywhere...
**We dramatised at class meetings ! The theatrics, ofcourse never made a difference...
**We bitched...We gossiped...And the next day, pretended We were best friends !
**We made friends fast...And enemies faster...
**We fell in love...And fell out of it...And amidst the chaos, flirted around as well...
**We made brothers/sisters and We made friends and We made stuff, We thought nobody noticed ! :D
**We ate Chicken Cheese Burgers at Baker's Point...
**We took the 92R and 49M...
**We shouted at Babus & Ammas who never understood a word We said !
**We waited for Monday's Vada Idli, Thursday's Dosa, Saturday's Chilly Chicken & Sunday's Biriyani !
**We fought with the Babu's for the extra dollop of ice cream and stole a few from the others on the table as well !
**We changed accents, wore swankier clothes, got new hair-dos...But We never forgot our "Katappa" and to be proud of it !
**We "Committeed"...For everything !
**We made a PC and in time, the PC made us...
**We goofed up, some way or the other at every Guest Lecture !
**We had 10 page long CVs !
**We invariably bent each rule there was !
**But in the end, breaking records and making history on the way, We MANAGEd...

"The Savant"

Its been months and the Writer's Block looms large on me...So, I take a pic...Ofcourse there's no fancy DSLR lugged across my shoulder, I shoot a random pic of Shubhangi in the middle of Koti with my 2 megapixel atrocity of a mobile phone ! Anyways, a few nicks and picks on Picassa and "The Savant" is born...

The Park...

 They reached the park...

She held on to her purl beret as a gusty breeze almost blew it over...Huddling her jacket close to herself, she walked to a nearby seat, wiped off a few stray leaves and sat down...

He held his motorbike helmet under one arm and settled his creased cardigan with the other...His breath was foggy in the chill of dusk...He walked on, crackling the dry autumn leaves beneath his feet and settled down on a damp wooden bench...

Bright lights glittered outside the park...Pedestrians walked in a hurry, rushing on with their Christmas shopping...Somewhere, at a distance, they could both hear 'Silent Night' playing along...

'Where was he?', she thought...
'Where was she?', he thought as well...

A faint smile tugged at her lips as his thought crossed her mind...She looked up to see a pretty girl with bangs across her forehead sitting on the other side of the road, smiling back at her, probably sharing a similar predicament...Shyly, she looked down at her gloved palms and felt the gold band on her finger through the wool...She missed him so very much ! They were meeting after a year and she was desperate to see him...To hold his hand...To play with his hair...To cry on his shoulder...To fret and whimper and throw a tantrum...To be cajoled and humored...And he had said he had a surprise for her...She couldn't wait...

He shook his head and almost laughed out loud at a memory of her...What a drama queen she was ! But how could he have survived without her?As he had struggled with his vices, she remained his only hope...Now, he was a changed man...The future they had frivolously dreamt of, some distant day in the past, now had a hope of becoming a reality...He sighed and reached for his wallet as a guy came up and sat down at the other end of the bench...Exchanging a cursory nod, he glanced at his hooded sweater...She never could like windcheaters and he pursed his lips into a smile as he imagined her comic reaction over the other guy's attire...Then, as he looked down at her smiling face in the picture in his wallet, frayed at the edges, yet fresh in his mind, he felt a sudden strong surge of warmth and love...After all, she was his girl...

She fidgeted in her purse for her mobile phone and suddenly remembered that he wouldn't have his with him yet...She flicked it open and glimpsed through their photos...Happier times...When all the time in the world was theirs...When 'sweet nothings' meant more than mere words...When wildflowers and doodles on pieces of paper were more precious than gems...They were smitten ! And then, he had to leave...Life, all of a sudden, took a forlorn turn...She incessantly prayed for him...They could rarely speak and whenever they did, her words got muffled with tears...Smiling at the memory, she kept her phone back in her purse...She was puzzled that he was so late today...

He did have a cellphone with him today and reached for it to call her up...She was never so late...He remembered her sight at his doorway, the day he had left...She had arrived early, her eyes puffy, having cried all through the previous night...He had been so scared, uncertain about what the future held for him...She had consoled him over and over again and cried some more...And as he was led to the car, she had clutched his hand, promising that she'd be right there, waiting for him...Looking at the blank screen of his power drained cellphone, he hoped that today, she would keep her promise...

They were both worried now...The crowd had considerably thinned...She got up and looked down the road running through the park...A few joggers crossed her...She coughed in the cold, blowing mist into the hastening darkness of Christmas eve...Gathering her purse, she decided to walk down to the other end...

Hastily, he got up, realizing that she may be waiting at the other end of the park...Grabbing his helmet, he took quick strides down the road...

She had accepted her disappointment and given a million excuses to herself on his behalf, when suddenly she caught his glimpse...Her heart skipped a beat and her feet hastened their pace...She no longer hid her smile or restrained herself from crying...Her Christmas was no more white ! As she almost reached him, she bumped into a tall man on the road...'Hey, sorry !', he said...She couldn't have cared less, she was the happiest girl today...'Merry Christmas', she beamed at him and ran to her love, sitting on the park bench, his hood now over his head...

'Hey soldier' she tapped at his shoulder as he sat there fumbling with his army locket...He got up with a start and slowly turned towards her...She stood there demurely...Smiling and crying, not knowing what to say...He savored her sight for a moment, knowing well that he would treasure this moment for eternity...All the pain of war, the bloodshed, the grim realization that each day may be his last, suddenly evaporated...As he walked towards her, neither did he hold back his tears anymore...He knew, he was finally home...

Somewhere, at the other end of the park, a certain reformed drug abuser softly parted his girl's bangs with his scarred fingers and wiped her streaming tears before engulfing her in a hug...'Merry Christmas', was all that he could manage to whisper...

'Firework'

I so hated Katy Perry in 'California Gurlz' ! Though the song was quirky, not to forget a constant companion on my walk to Deodar everyday during summers...'Hot n Cold' had already made an impression and Katy was clearly fun to hear a few times but eventually forgettable...
Anyway, I chanced upon her latest track 'Firework' today and I just had to mention few of her lyrics...I love collecting quotes and though the track is mediocre, the lyrics are poetic...

"Do you ever feel, feel so paper thin...
Like a house of cards, one blow from caving in..."

"You dont have to feel like a waste of space...
You're original, cannot be replaced..."

"Maybe you're the reason why all the doors are closed...
So you open one that leads to to the perfect road..."

"Like a lightning bolt, your heart will blow...
And when its time, you'll just know..."

"You're a firework !"
:)

A bit of trivia on my way out:
Katy got married to British comedian Russell Brand on 23rd October in a traditional Hindu ceremony near the Ranthambore National Park, Rajasthan...The same spot where he had proposed to her in the first place !

The Day I Got A Thousand Friends ! (Nov 15th 2010)

Declaration !

I'm an egotist...
And what better way to proclaim so than on my blog...On these lines, I decide to pen down a few tidbits about me...Few things bland and some quite spicy, to be reaffirmed by those who know me and to be judged by those who dont !
Read on...
"WILL THE REAL VASUDHA PLEASE STAND UP !"

** I...DO...NOT...LIKE...MAHATMA...GANDHI ! And nothing can change my mind on that...The statement goes way deeper than just a choice, its who I am...Yuvi would understand...

** Gerberas over Roses...Dark Chocolate over Milk...Pastels over RYB...Tea over Coffee...Fiction over Fact...Retrievers over Chihuahuas...Amar Chitra Katha over Harry Potter...Teacup Pigs over Caged Lovebirds...Pink booties over Blue...
Any-damn-day !

** I'm game for crazy ! Not dangerously so but few memories of the edge would suffice...Galloping on a horse, bungee jumping, scripting a teeny tiny tattoo or tasting exotic cuisines (Read: Frogs, Roaches, Squids) without the reluctance of the Brahmin in me !

** I've managed to taste my share of wines, liquor and cigarettes but the satisfaction was in realising how much I hated whatever I drank or smoked ! Hence, I'm a non alcoholic and a non smoker, absolutely by my own choice !
** What do ABBA, Mohammed Rafi and Akshay Mohanty have in common?Yup, they are Music Maestros spanning countries, generations and languages and all three have a spot in my playlists...Always !

** I dream of owning a library one day...And gifting the magic of literature to my kids as my Mum passed on to to me !

** I'm outlandishly tall and huge, and I absolutely revel in my stature ! Though I smile politely whenever I hear, "OMG, you're so tall !" (and I hear it a lot), all I want to secretly shout back is, "OMG and you're so short !"

** I love gory flicks ! I enjoy the subtle (Read: 'The Blair Witch Project' and 'Paranormal Activity') and I enjoy the overdone (Read: 'Saw' and 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre')...

** Surprisingly, I cannot stand gore in reality ! So, even though I can sit through endless hours of scream queens, five minutes of 'America's Nastiest Videos' flusters me ! A true scaredy cat and proud to admit so !

** Though I put up a tough exterior, I'm a crybaby of sorts ! Well, I do not hesitate in wailing out loud over a song, a tear jerker movie, some past memory, a fight or a loss, but as my already bulbous nose tends to grow to greater dimensions due to the activity of the Lacrimal, I wisely keep my breakdowns away from the public eye !

** I'm the convenient extrovert...But at the end of the day, nothing beats getting into my jammies, curling up my toes, digging into a Chicken Cheese Burger and watching 'How I Met Your Mother' !
** I so hate ostentatious declarations of love ! And ofcourse PDA makes me want to barf...As far as I'm concerned, I can very well find my romance in childish doodles on post its !

** I dont know how to cook ! Well, I can churn up the perfect omlette and brew a fine cup of tea but unfortunately that's that ! Ofcourse, its petty when I think about it, it wasn't written in the Rig Veda that women ought to know how to cook ! I look at it this way...If I could learn MS Excel and Candlestick Charts, what's a platter of spices !

** I'm a Scorpio to the hilt ! I'm passionate about certain things, I'm insanely jealous and I'm stubborn as a mule when it suits me ! But as Linda Goodman put it, my inherent desire as that of any Scorpio woman is, to be a man ! And I'd love to be one for a day...Without the anatomical modifications and deletions ofcourse ! And what would I do?Well, I'd simply learn exactly what charms and manipulations of women manage to make men absolute fools wrapped around their little fingers !

** How I love the abstract ! I wouldn't hesitate in a Typo screen on my PC, screaming 'Helvetica' or a collage of the weirdest images on my wall...No teddy bears for me, I'd rather have my Origami paper cranes with me...

** My worst fear is being buried alive ! The elements of Fire, Wind and Water intimidate but Earth terrorises me ! As in 'Spoorloos', my nightmare is being enclosed in a nailed casket with a tiny lighter, the death of whose flickering flame predecesses mine...No boogeyman can scare me any worse !

** I'm not an atheist but I'm not pious...I believe in my Gods and I'll believe in yours...I believe in ghosts and poltergeists just as I believe in coincidences and miracles...I put my fear and faith in God and I deny Godmen...I'm not a do-gooder, far from it, but I do believe in a simple five letter word called 'Karma'...

Invictus

William Ernest Henley
Crippled by tuberculosis from his boyhood years, W E Henley was rendered helpless and incapacitated at an early age...
Despite his predicament, W E Henley wrote with gusto from his hospital bed...
His best work, Invictus, a death bed affirmation of his atheism succeeded in motivating Nelson Mandela during his twenty seven years of exile at Robben Island...
My favourite poem...

Invictus

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul...

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud,
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed...

Beyond this place of wrath and tears,
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid...

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul...

One Navratra

Its autumn at MANAGE...

There is a light early morning drizzle, the leaves begin to turn, the evening draft carries a slight chill and puppies are born...

However, more importantly, it is the time of Navratri, Dandiya and Garba and MANAGE basks in festive glory...In my second and final year, I'm already nostalgic about Navratri, last year...It seems so far off now...Dressed in a pink suit, wondering whether I'm overdressed in danglers, conscious about my inaptitude in handling the Dandiya sticks, I remember walking into the Puja...In a thrice, the festive fervour caught on...There was cheer in the air and all my seniors and friends gathered around chanting shlokas...Piety had never been my forte, though strangely, that night I prayed for Ma Durga's blessing ! And blessed, I was...Perhaps my prayers were heard that night and Ma gave me a wonderful year ahead...Sprinkled with laughter, a few stray tears, memories and friends...I'm grateful...

I prayed again this Navratri...And I thanked...

Dandiya Nite turned out to be entirely different from what I had in mind...It seemed a decision of the last hour to dress up in a saree and a wise decision it was...There was gaiety all around and the girls took their own sweet time to look their best ! I missed Mousumi Ma'm, Puja Ma'm and Rupali Ma'm and suddenly the realisation struck that we wont be around next year...And I hoped, somebody would miss me as I missed my mentors...

The party took off with the Puja...Namrata and Pushpanjali chanted shlokas and we echoed with alacrity...Chants of "Jay Mata Di" resounded...Images of Ma were decked up, framed with a maroon Bandhej dupatta...Flowers were scattered and incense sticks burned...We all did the 'Aarti' and had 'Prashad'...Mona did the 'Tika' on our foreheads and slowly the crowd dispersed for a sumptuous dinner prepared by Khan Saab...

Shirin looked resplendent in a Green Chiffon Jodhpuri Bandhini, only to be matched by a Sap Green Kurta clad Aditya...I joined the couple and after several photos and some good hearted camaraderie, all of us joined in the dance...I hadn't imagined how much fun it would be prancing around in a saree repeating the same steps over and over again ! With Gupchup, Fruit Salad and Orange Juice as energisers, we danced all night long, cluck-clucking on heady Dandiya beats, oblivious to Vikram Singh's warnings and messages through Alok Bhai !

At 3am, the party finally drew to a close and the two batches gathered around for a picture...As we decided to walk back to our rooms, a heavy drizzle stopped us...Shirin was apprehensive about the rain but suddenly Aditya grabbed her wrist and ran towards shelter...The spontaneity amazed and amused me as well as several others on the path...Maybe, these were some moments I'd prayed for and Ma answered my prayers...Yet again...

God bless !

Mumbai Noons... :)

In the year 1997, I saw a city and could not comprehend its vastness...It is 2010, I see the city for the second time and Mumbai still remains incomprehensible...

Mumbai comes to my mind as glittering confetti of memories...Many overwhelming and few forgettable...Here are excerpts of both...

The Mumbai Local:
("Kudhel Station Jogeshwari")

"Welcome to Mumbai" my mind subconsciously shouts out amidst the babel of noises around me !
The hoot of the Borivalli Slow lures a million feet to scramble across the platform to get a seat or at least a spot to rest their feet...Its barely 8.30 in the morning and the crowds have already materialized...The Ladies Compartment beckons me and I know politeness wont fetch me a seat...I must push the dozen women ahead of me while the another dozen push me from behind...

The train chughs halfway across Mumbai and the sultry 9 o clock sun paves way for a merciless 11 o clock one...The Ladies Compartment invites more and more women at every station...Office goers, young students, housewives with their kids and the eunuchhs...The youngsters gossip away, touching up on their make up once in a while...The slightly older women chatter away on their marital woes and office worries...Mothers hold on to their children...Acquaintances make polite queries...And some of us, preferring oblivion, retreat into the solace of our music players...
A few peddlers bring in their wares once in a while...Jasmine and Rose garlands, cheap plastic Hair Clutchers, Bindis and Stickers...At times a woman sells Vada Pav and Sabu Daana Vada to the eager crowd...
An announcement chirps through the microphone and the station details flashes on the ticker..."Kudhel Station Kandivalli"...Though the crowd has thinned at Dadar and Andheri, I know I must reach the door before the train stops...A few seconds before it halts for a quick stop, I grab the sole railing by the door and peep outside...The sun and the wind hit my face...

The National Mill Labourers Association:
("Please Close The Door" !!)
We sought cheap accommodation and got more than we were looking for ! The location is strategic, the rooms modest, the Misal Pav slightly watery, the elevator vintage and the Mumbai skyline (Shapoorji Buildings) from the fifth floor magnificent !
We yell at each other every morning, hurrying everyone up...There is a sudden rush to charge our cellphones and laptops, a sudden need to iron our clothes...Everything seems to have been suddenly misplaced...To top it all, accusations are flung around ! And everyday, for one fortnight, the ruckus lasts exactly an hour and a half...
Contrary to the early morning pandemonium, when we return in the evening, our apartment feels like home ! Maybe the drudgery of the day takes its toll...We chatter away our tales of the day while snacking on Vada Pav that somebody or the other always brings on the way back home...After a short nap, the eight of us walk down to our dinner joint, Modern...And inevitably, dinner is the same everyday...The Chicken Biriyani combo !

The Nightlife:
("Shola Hai Ya Hai Bijuria")
It is midnight on Saturday and Bidipta Di, Binod Bhai and Bhauja decided to take me out to Juhu Chowpatty...Well, the traffic on the roads, the parking rush at Hotel Ramadan and the lights and sounds suggest something else...I imagine the eight o clock Market Building at Bhubaneswar ! Though the beach is disappointing (Peanut shells and Watermelon slices in the waves), the snaps are fun, the Kulfi tasty and the crowds amazing !
After watching 'Wall Street' at Regal in Colaba, a one o clock dinner at Barista is topped only by a picture in front of RBI, despite being shouted at and being frisked away by Security ! I walk back with friends after a late night show of Step Up 3D at the awing Phoenix Mills Palladium and at 1.30am on Ganesh Chaturthi, several youngsters lounge around the road seeking cabs but in no hurry to reach home...I wait in the queue for dinner at '5 Spice' and ultimately settle for another Chinese joint...However, it isn't a disappointment anymore when a trip to the Sailing Club at NOFRA materialises at midnight...Few yachts hover on the coastline of Arabian Sea and several Fishing Boats and Catamarans are lined on the bay...The ambience is heady !
Cruising along on the Bandra Kurla highway, returning home from Lokhandwaala, the weekend crowd drives by us, in as much a hurry as if it is the Monday rush...Though my expeditions do not include the well sought after pubs, discotheques and bistros, I did have my slice of the acclaimed Mumbai Nightlife !

The Streets:
("Fixed Price: Rs 150")
From the cutest pair of denim shorts to the choicest eateries, the streets of Mumbai are laden with wares to please the eyes, the tummy and most definitely the pockets ! Though my stay is short, I do not hesitate to spend on trinkets at Dadar, tees and capris at Bandra Link Road and books at Churchgate...But somehow, I save the best for the last...Cosby is marvellous when it comes to Shorts, Clutches and Saree Chappals !
Food is second life for Mumbaikars as is evident by the innumerous street corner fast food joints coming up with the tastiest Cheese Sandwiches, Vada Pav, Pav Bhaji, Bhel Puri and on and on the list goes...
A plethora of gustatory delights await the passersby at every nook and corner that we visit...

All that comes to my mind when I recall Mumbai is Jay Z's 'Empire State of Mind' and somehow Mumbai aptly replaces New York...
"In Mumbai, Concrete Jungles Where Dreams Are Made Of,
There's Nothing You Cant Do, Now That You're In Mumbai,
These Streets Will Make You Feel Brand New,
Big Lights Will Inspire You...
Lets hear It For Mumbai !!"

The First Time... ♥

The thought stems in my head a long time before it spells into action...I contemplate for a month...I imagine the wondrous pros...I try penning down the cons though I seldom find any ! (Ofcourse)...And on and on it goes...Till that one day when the deliberation reaches its peak, tiny fritters of adrenaline pump in and I know, the world is mine to conquer...And then, I wake up for a jog...

The exhilaration of that first jog is unmatched ! I wake up on the very first ring of my customised "Please Dont Stop The Music" alarm tone, rudely cutting Rihanna short...My eyes are wide open and I cant help but give a sheepish grin...Appu needs to be wakened and I walk over to her door wondering whether I should knock or ring the bell...I choose the latter and within seconds a sleepy Appu comes to the door and confirms our early morning outing...

My jogging clothes are kept aside (OCD at its best) and it takes me a jiffy to freshen up and change...Aparajita gives a soft knock and we step outside...There's not a soul in sight, MANAGE is cozily asleep in the supposedly 'wee' hours of the morning and the novelty of the situation makes us both burst into laughter...We plug in our earphones and tune into the playlists we have both compiled the previous night...

The two of us reach a fork in the road and enthusiastically decide to start with a jog and so we do...For exactly 13 seconds ! At the end of the 50 m stretch, we are both panting for breath and coming to terms with reality ! Sparing a thought to our rusty joints and deciding (wisely) to take it slow, we turn around and take a walk...

The previously unseen early morning MANAGE is a welcome sight...On our way, we meet others sharing a similar fate as us, though we are undoubtedly the hippiest joggers on the road...We break into a short run yet again and though we sustain a tad bit longer this time, we decide (wisely again) to take it one day at a time...Afterall, we've covered 30 minutes and almost 2 kms !

Our mission is accomplished and there is no feeling more splendid than the one on both our minds...A status on FB follows, much to the curiosity of our other classmates...

I wonder if this's meant to last...But like many other firsts, I know, it will be memorable, close to my heart and ofcourse perfect !
